How do I remove cured adhesive from the lens?

For thicker adhesive layers, gently scrape the glass with a razor knife after the standard isopropyl-alcohol cleaning. Work carefully, the goal is to lift the deposit without scoring the glass.

What cleaners should I avoid on the lens?

Never use abrasive cleaning compounds or steel wool. These remove the glass finish and permanently reduce light transmission, stick to isopropyl alcohol on a soft cloth.

Can I touch the LED lens with my fingers?

No, skin contaminants refract light and can create localized hot spots on the lens that shorten LED life. Always handle lenses with cotton gloves or a soft cloth.

What gloves should I use when handling optics?

Cotton gloves, we stock the UV1422 pair, which also provides UV light shielding for production work. A soft lint-free cloth works too for brief lens handling.

What's the power-down procedure before maintenance?

Turn off the rear Input Power Switch, unplug the power cord from the IEC receptacle, and wait a minimum of 10 minutes for the light guide to cool to room temperature and for internal storage capacitors to discharge.

This procedure is required before any maintenance to avoid contact with high voltages or hot surfaces.

How often should the lens be cleaned?

There's no fixed interval, inspect periodically and clean as required. In production, foreign matter and condensed product vapors gradually build up on the glass and cut UV transmission, so check more often in dirty or fume-heavy areas.

How do I monitor UV output over time?

Use a radiometer to track system UV/visible output and confirm intensity stays sufficient for complete curing. If you don't have one, regularly check the quality of cured parts as a less direct indicator.

Do you offer a radiometer for the SkyBeam?

Yes, the LEDCure UV LED Radiometer (P/N UV4006-XXX), available for 365, 385, 395, or 405 nm with a 40 W/cm2 range. Request a quote and we'll match it to your wavelength.

How long do the LED heads last?

20,000 hours typical, roughly ten times the life of a traditional arc lamp, and LEDs fade gradually rather than failing outright.

What shortens LED life?

Life is affected by the number of on/off cycles, the intensity setting, and operating temperature. Keeping guides below 40 C with clean, unrestricted cooling air is the biggest single factor you control.

How much do the LEDs dim over their life?

Output declines only gradually, the manual's typical-life chart shows roughly 85% of initial output remaining at 20,000 hours when run at 80% power and 25 C ambient.

Baseline your output with a radiometer when new so you can spot the drift and compensate with the 10-100% power setting.

When should I replace an LED light guide?

When intensity remains inadequate for proper curing even after cleaning the lens. Light guide life depends on run time, on/off cycles, and temperature, so a radiometer baseline makes the call objective.

How do I reset the LED hour counter after a swap?

Open the system parameters (hold Setup over 3 seconds with the security key on) and reset that channel's total irradiation time row. Reset the counter after every head replacement so the life log tracks the new emitter.

Are replacement LED heads available?

Yes, the LED and guide replace as one assembly: UV4053-xxxF (fan-cooled) or UV4054-xxxC (convection), ordered by wavelength (365/385/395/405 nm). 20,000-hour emitters, and the controller logs each channel's hours.

Can I buy a complete replacement light guide?

Yes, complete guide assemblies are stocked in all four wavelengths: UV4053-365F/385F/395F/405F fan-cooled or UV4054-365C/385C/395C/405C convection-cooled, each with 6 and 12 mm lenses.

Can LED heads move between channels?

Yes, SkyBeam heads are interchangeable across all four channels. Order by wavelength, and the controller will log the new head's hours once installed.

Do the cooling fans need any care?

Keep the cooling air clean, dust, vapors, and airborne particles can clog fan intakes and cooling fins, causing overheating or reduced light output. Maintain 6 inches of clearance around the unit for unrestricted airflow.

Why does the guide fan speed up during a cure?

That's normal, as LED temperature rises during exposure, the light guide fan automatically increases speed to regulate temperature, then slows back down afterward.

What are safe storage conditions for the system?

Store between 0 and 60 C (32 to 140 F) at 10 to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing. Save the original carton and packing material in case the unit ever needs to be shipped.

What operating environment does the SkyBeam need?

Ambient +10 to +40 C (50 to 104 F), 20 to 90% relative humidity non-condensing, in a clean area with 6 inches of clearance on all sides for cooling air.

Is there any user-serviceable part inside the controller?

No. The sheet-metal enclosure should never be opened, high voltage is present, and the electrical system should only be serviced by Uvitron factory-trained personnel. User maintenance is limited to lens cleaning and keeping cooling air clean.

Who services SkyBeam internals?

Repairs beyond user maintenance are handled at the Uvitron International factory. Contact us and we'll arrange factory service, including the required Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number.

How does a factory repair work?

Contact us and we'll set up an RMA for the return. You ship the unit to the factory at your expense; after repair it's returned to you at no charge by the normal shipping method.

Freight-collect shipments to the factory are not accepted, so prepay the inbound leg.

What warranty comes with the SkyBeam?

Uvitron International warrants its products against defective material and workmanship under normal use for 2 years from the date of shipment. Warranty repairs are done at the factory or replaced at no charge.

Do you sell a replacement foot switch?

Yes, the exposure-control foot switch is P/N UV4045, with a 2-meter cable. One ships with every SkyBeam; spares are available on request.

Do you sell a replacement power cord?

Yes, P/N UV4047, a 6-foot 18 AWG US-standard cord; other country plug types are available. One is included with each system.

Is there a USB adapter for the RS-232 port?

Yes, the UV4704 USB-to-RS232 adapter/converter connects a modern PC or PLC to the SkyBeam for remote control when no native serial port is available.

Can I get spare UV safety glasses?

Yes, P/N UV0496, 5.0-shade UV safety glasses in an over-the-glasses (OTG) style that fits over prescription eyewear. One pair is included with every SkyBeam.

Do you sell UV-shielding work gloves?

Yes, P/N UV1422, a pair of protective cotton work gloves with UV light shielding. They double as safe handling gloves for the LED lenses.

Can I get extra security keys?

Every SkyBeam ships with a set of two security switch keys, P/N UV4046. If you need additional sets, contact us and we'll quote them.

Any ESD precautions for the rear connectors?

Yes, avoid electrostatic discharge and hot plugging at the rear light guide connectors. Power down before connecting or disconnecting guides, and ground yourself when handling connector ends.

What's a good preventive maintenance routine?

Inspect and clean the lens periodically with isopropyl alcohol, verify output with a radiometer against your new-unit baseline, keep cooling air clean with 6 inches of clearance, and watch each channel's life log for aging heads.

Why are cotton gloves required in production?

Two reasons: UV radiation causes skin burns during extended production work, and bare fingers deposit contaminants on lenses that create hot spots and reduce LED life. The UV1422 gloves address both.

How do I order replacement parts?

Send us a quote request with the part numbers you need, light guides, lenses, foot switches, cords, glasses, or radiometers, and we'll respond within one business day. All items ship from our US stock.

Will cleaning the lens restore my cure speed?

Often, yes, accumulated deposits and condensed vapors are a common cause of reduced UV transmission. Clean per the manual procedure, then retest intensity and cure time; if output is still low, the guide may be due for replacement.

Does the controller itself have a fan or filter?

No, the controller is convection cooled with no fan or filter to service. Active fans are only on fan-type light guides; just keep vents unobstructed and the surrounding air clean.

The unit needs repair, what should I do?

Don't open the enclosure. Contact us with the symptoms and serial number, and we'll arrange factory service through Uvitron International, including the RMA paperwork and return logistics.
