How do you calculate UV curing dose?
Dose equals intensity multiplied by time: dose (mJ/cm²) = intensity (mW/cm²) × exposure time (s), because one milliwatt delivered for one second is one millijoule. Measure intensity at the joint with a radiometer, take the target dose from the adhesive datasheet, and solve for the exposure time.
What is a good UV cure dose?
It is whatever the adhesive datasheet specifies, there is no universal number. Typical spot-cure adhesives call for anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand mJ/cm². Use the datasheet dose and your measured intensity to set the time.
Why does my cure time need to increase over time?
Because dose is intensity times time. As an arc lamp dims or a light guide loses transmission, the intensity at the joint falls, so a longer exposure is needed to hold the same dose. A radiometer catches the drop; a fresh lamp or guide restores the original time.
